Drama teaches fantastic skills which can be used everywhere, and in every situation all through your life.
However, for many drama students, the big question is ...
Do you think you'd like to be an actor?
Everyone can act, some better than others depending on natural talent, but it takes a lot of hard work, training and practice to become a professional actor.
Being an actor is not an easy job. It can be difficult to get acting work, and it takes a strong, confident person to be rejected over and over again, and still keep going. Even when actors get regular work, only a very few become rich and famous stars.
Above all, you need passion.
That means that you need to want to act more than anything else. You need to be determined to do everything you can to be the best you can possibly be.
Even then, you might not have the right "look", or there may not be many characters that suit you, or there might be too many actors who are similar to you, or you might just not have been in the right place at the right time. There are lots of reasons why actors do not get work, and it's often not the actor's fault.
If you love acting, are prepared to put in the effort, and are ready to keep on trying, then being a professional actor might be a career for you.
Remember that you will always benefit from learning drama, no matter what you decide to do as a career.
